We recognize a growing interest in our independent contractor classification option both from within our own roster, as well as the independent adjuster community as a whole. Naturally, this has led to quite a few questions about the option itself, including eligibility requirements, compensation, and more. Our team has compiled this list of commonly-asked questions to make it easier for those who are considering the independent contractor route to make an informed decision about how they want to work for RENFROE. Don't see your question here? Feel free to contact us.
Employees are trained and managed by their employer, generally have regular wages and benefits, and typically work for one employer at a time. A contractor is an expert in their field, works independently and often provides services to multiple companies at a time.
You can create a contractor profile in the Resource Portal. At the top right, select Manage Profiles -> Create New Profile.
To be a contractor, you must have your own business. You also will need to sign a contract for services, an arbitration agreement, and a few other onboarding documents. You will also need an active driver’s license and adjusting licenses. Finally, you must also have a background check at your expense unless you have had one in the last three years at the time of application.
We plan to make RENFROE U available to contractors. Contractors are expected to be knowledgeable and experienced in their field, but they are welcome to use RENFROE U to brush up on their skills.
We will pay most contractors on a fee basis, but will confirm the pay plan at the time of deployment. We will not deduct taxes or other withholdings from contractor fees. We will issue you a 1099 form for each calendar year in which it is paid for services provided.
You will create invoices in the Resource Portal. We will pay contractor fees weekly. We may reserve payment on a portion of the fees until the client pays us.
No, we only offer benefits, such as health insurance and 401k, to employees.
We will not pay you as both a contractor and an employee in the same year. If you have worked for us as one, you can request to switch to the other. However, a switch will not be effective until the next year, if you worked in the current calendar year.
It is best to provide services to us through only one company. If you change your company name, you can update it in the Resource Portal. However, if you decide to provide services under a different business with a different taxpayer identification number, you should create a new contractor profile.
Our Workforce team handles contractor onboarding and changes to your status. Once you follow the steps to make a request, the team will be notified.
You can create a new profile through the Resource Portal. Select Manage Profiles -> Create New Profile at the top-right when you log in. If you already have an employee and contractor profile and wish to change the active one, you can submit a change request through the same menu.
You should email your concern to contractors@earenfroe.com.
We will notify you when we approve you as a contractor, and let you know when we have contractor opportunities for you. This won't be immediate because we are still setting up portions of the program. Also, as with any deployments, the timing of an assignment is based on client need.
