RENFROE recognizes a growing interest in our independent contractor classification option both from within our own roster, as well as the independent adjuster community as a whole. Naturally, this has led to quite a few questions about the option itself, including eligibility requirements, compensation, and more. Our team has compiled this list of commonly-asked questions to make it easier for those who are considering the independent contractor route to make an informed decision about how they want to work for RENFROE. Don't see your question here? Feel free to contact us.
Employees are trained and managed by their employer, generally have regular wages and benefits, and typically work for one employer at a time. A contractor is an expert in their field, works independently and often provides services to multiple companies at a time.
You can request to create a contractor profile in PTS.
A contractor must have their own business. They also will need to sign a contract for services, an arbitration agreement, and a few other onboarding documents. They will need an active driver’s license and adjusting licenses. Contractors must also have a background check at their expense unless they have had one in the last three years at the time of application.
We plan to make RENFROE U available to contractors. Contractors are expected to be knowledgeable and experienced in their field, but they are welcome to use RENFROE U to brush up on their skills.
RENFROE will pay most contractors on a fee basis, but it will confirm the pay plan at the time of deployment. RENFROE will not deduct taxes or other withholdings from contractor fees. RENFROE will issue a contractor a 1099 form for each calendar year in which it is paid for services provided.
You will create invoices in PTS. We will pay contractor fees weekly. RENFROE may reserve payment on a portion of the fees until the client pays RENFROE.
No, RENFROE only offers benefits, such as health insurance and 401k, to employees.
RENFROE will not pay you as both a contractor and an employee in the same year. If you have worked for RENFROE as one, you can request to switch to the other. However, a switch will not be effective until the next year, if you worked in the current calendar year.
It is best to provide services to RENFROE through only one company. If you change your company name, you can update it in PTS. However, if you decide to provide services under a different business with a different taxpayer identification number, you should create a new contractor profile.
The Workforce department handles contractor onboarding and changes to an individual's status.
You can create a new profile through the Resource Portal, simply log in and you'll find profile options at the top-right, one of which being to create a new profile. If you already have an employee and contractor profile and wish to change your active status, you can submit a change request through the same menu.
You should email your concern to contractors@earenfroe.com.
Workforce will notify you when it approves you as a contractor. Once approved, they will contact you when we have opportunities for you. This won't be immediate because we are still setting up portions of the program. Also, as with any deployments, the timing of an assignment is based on client need. Remember that if you worked as an employee in a calendar year, Workforce won't contact you for work as a contractor in that same calendar year.
